Tuscany is one of those magical places on earth that once you visit, you know you will return. I just returned from another trip to this enchanting region and just like the many times before, my heart broke a little when it was time to leave. I had the most amazing time showing my guests from Dallas, Texas the land I love so much. They were all there to celebrate life events and I feel blessed to have been a part of that with them.
In October, I get to repeat this awesome adventure and will have another group of eager travelers ready to visit this exceptional place. While my October trip to Tuscany will be similar to the trip we just returned from in June, I’ve made some minor tweaks. I’m happy to share some of the highlights from my June trip, as well as introduce some of the changes for my October trip. There are still spots open for October! If you are looking for beauty, adventure, culture and cuisine, Tuscany awaits you. Take a look and imagine your trip of a lifetime.
In June, my group of travelers from Dallas stayed at the same Villa our cooking classes were held at. Villa La Quercia is a 17th century stone cottage overlooking the breathtaking hills of Tuscany. Here, we spent time getting to know each other over wine, cooking, and camaraderie. Because I like to offer every group something a little different, in October my guests will be staying at Mulino di Firenze. This beautiful boutique hotel in Florence is the perfect place for us to make our home base while we explore. This hotel is recognized as one of Florence’s most enchanting places to stay, overlooking the Arno River.
Tuscany is famous for its cuisine. So during my trips to Tuscany, a cooking class is a must. My Dallas group shown in the photo above enjoyed hours of discovery while preparing, sipping, tasting and laughing during this coveted cooking session with renowned Chef Ms. Veronica. I can’t wait to get back to this same kitchen and experience it all over again in this Fall.
This October, I’m excited to introduce my guests to La Petraia. This gorgeous “agriturismo” set in the highest peaks of the Chianti region with the most magnificent views will be the setting for a very memorable day. A true labor of love, Chef Susan Grant has created a place where everything you taste is grown or raised on the property. Enjoy a walking tour of the gorgeous grounds, an intimate wine tasting, and a wonderful lunch tasting menu in one of the most peaceful places you will ever experience.
Wine tastings are also a big part of my trips to Tuscany. We’ll be visiting the renowned Badia a Colitbuono winery, a beautiful and historic thousand-year old abbey in the heart of the Chianti region. It is here where wine was first introduced to Tuscany when the monks settled here in the 11th century and planted vineyards with the vines they brought with them from distant lands. Our day here will include wine and olive oil tastings, as well as a wonderful lunch in the gardens that surround the abbey and overlook the countryside.
While the countryside of Tuscany offers relaxation and charm, it’s Florence that is truly the gem that makes this place so exceptional. While in Florence, my guests will enjoy a culinary tasting walk and a private art walk through the city. We’ll hit the lovely cafes, outdoor open-air markets, and soak up the culture that is Firenze. It is not uncommon to stumble into small businesses that have been around for generations. In fact, I can’t wait to revisit the oldest bakery in Florence. The baker himself arrives at 4:00 AM every morning to kneed, bake, and prepare his delectables creations. This stop is on our walking tasting tour and will include some unforgettable samplings of the most delicious baked goods the city has to offer.
